The Out of the Darkness Community Walks are the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's (AFSP) signature fundraising campaign, bringing together family, friends, colleagues, and supporters at 3-5 mile walks in hundreds of communities across the country.

New this year, AFSP's North Texas Chapter invites you to stay after the Walk for the inaugural Celebration of Life Picnic. This is an opportunity to meet and mingle with other walkers and participants, to cultivate bonds in our North Texas community. Food and drinks will be provided. Please bring a blanket to sit on, as this will be a true "picnic" format featuring speakers and entertainment.
Want to have your name on this year's participant t-shirts? There are two ways to make it happen! Anyone who raises at least $250 as an individual will have the option of having their name on the back of this year's t-shirts. Additionally, any team that raises at least $500 as a team will have the option of having their team name on the back of this year's t-shirts. The deadline for both of these opportunities is 11:59pm CST on Wednesday, September 17.
-- A blanket: You are encouraged to bring a blanket for the Celebration of Life Picnic portion of the event.
-- A photo of your loved one: If you are walking to honor a loved one, you are invited to bring a photo (without a frame) to display on the Memory Wall at the event. You may pick up your photo after the walk, but please do not bring anything irreplaceable as we will be outdoors and the elements are unpredictable. Please note that this is optional.
-- Your furry friend(s): Dogs are welcome at the event! Please remember to keep them leashed and clean up after them at all times.
-- On-site donations: If you have collected donations and need to turn them in on site, you'll be able to do so at the registration desk when you check in. If you have multiple donations to turn in, please try to have a total amount counted when you arrive.
-- Cash or credit card: There will be plenty of AFSP merchandise for sale. Cash and credit cards (using a secure method) will be accepted.
