When you walk in an Out of the Darkness Campus Walk, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss. Thanks to Walkers and Donors like you, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025. The Western PA chapter will use the money raised to bring those AFSP programs to our local campuses and communities in this part of the state.

Let’s Be the Voice for Suicide Prevention at Robert Morris University!

We hope you will join us as we bring an Out of the Darkness Campus Walk back to Robert Morris University!  The event, which was previously hosted on campus in spring 2015, this spring is being organized by the RMU Counseling Center and team of student volunteers. The walk aims to be a positive, hopeful and uplifting experience to raise awareness and conversation about mental health and suicide prevention. Suicide is the #2 leading cause of death in the U.S. for those ages 15-34.

Fundraising Starts With You…

While fundraising is not required to do the walk, and there is NO fee to walk, financial resources help us implement much-needed education, research, and advocacy programs in our communities. There are 3 things you can do to jump-start your fundraising efforts: donate to yourself, even if just a modest sum of $10, to show others you are committed to the cause; personalize your walker page online; and share your page and story with others. Don't miss Walker Central for online help resources to maximize your participation in the event, including free mobile apps to help with fundraising.

Also, check out these cool fundraiser incentives!

Walkers who raise $100 or more before walk day will get a free official Out of the Darkness Walk t-shirt

The first 250 walkers to show the RMU Counseling Center that you raised $125 or more will get a free "Violet" toy gift:

Even more gifts are available if you raised $250 or more! Check them out here.

Form Teams:

You can form online teams and invite others to join. Feel free to create your own team signs, buttons, costumes, or t-shirts for the day of the event. We invite the creativity!

About the Walk and Route:

The registration and pre-walk activities start on the RMU campus on the Nicholson lawn & lobby at 10:30 AM. We suggest you arrive early to enjoy the activities. The actual walk will be kicked off by a brief opening ceremony at 11:30 AM. The walk is done at your own pace, and the walk will take place rain or shine. The walk route is approximately 5K, but you may walk as much or as little of it as you like.

Activities at the Walk:

More will be announced as the event nears, but the following pre-walk activities will be available to all participants:
