The Chicago Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a 3  mile scenic walk that will begin and end in Grove 2, just ½ mile south of Lincoln Park Zoo.  Proceeds will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, to fund research, education, survivor and awareness programs — both to prevent suicide and to assist those affected by suicide.

Site Directions

The Chicago Community Walk will begin and end at Grove 2 in Lincoln Park.  Grove 2 is located near the corner of Stockton Drive and LaSalle Drive, just south of Lincoln Park Zoo.  For a map of the area click here

Transportation& Parking

We recommend that participants take public transportation.  The closest bus lines are (in order) Stockton/Sheridan, Clark, Lincoln, North Ave, Fullerton. Closest El stops are Armitage or Sedgwick (Brown Line) and North/Clybourn, Clark/Division, Fullerton (Red Line).  Google maps has an option for getting around using public transportation.  To view all the available routes, click here

Street parking is available on Stockton Drive but is limited.  Lincoln Park Zoo Parking opens at 9am and costs $17 for up to 3 hours, $19 for 3-4 hours, $25 for 4-5 hours and $30 for 5+ hours.

Inclement Weather

We will walk rain or shine, hot or cold!  Please be prepared and dress appropriately.

Registration, Check-in & Day Of Donations

We encourage you to have everyone you are walking with pre-register for the community walk; however, we will have registration on site.

If you have pre-registered and have additional donations to turn in, please convert your cash donations into a check or money order and have all of the Offline Donation Forms completely filled out.  This will help expedite check-in.

If you have pre-registered but do not have additional donations, please make sure that you still check-in so we have an accurate count of participants for the event.

Opening Ceremony

Opening Ceremony will begin promptly at 10am and the kickoff for the walk will follow immediately (approx. 10:20).

After the Walk

There is a lot to do after the walk – have a picnic, visit the zoo or take another stroll along the beach.  We hope that you will take the opportunity to visit the windy city!
