Dear Friend,
I will be joining with thousands of people nationwide to walk in AFSP's South Metro Walk to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. I would appreciate any support that you give me for this worthwhile cause.
I am walking in remembrance of my brother Chuckie. This will be my third year walking in this event, and I plan to continue walking until suicide becomes a non issue. I was having a conversation recently, one that had nothing to do with death. In fact, we were discussing birth, and the pains and joys that come from having children. One of the participants in this conversation said that labor and birth were the most painful thing she had ever experienced. I did not disagree with her, but knew immediately that the pain I felt in birthing my three children was NOTHING compared to having my heart ripped out of my chest and torn to shreds as my dad said those words to me "your brother killed himself". That was the most painful thing I have ever experienced, and hopeful I will never need to repeat that feeling. I can honestly say that I would never wish the pain of suicide anyone, not even my worst enemy. I walk to increase awareness, to provide some help in the research out outreach necessary to keep others from ever experiencing that heart ripping feeling.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is at the forefront of research, education and prevention initiatives designed to reduce loss of life from suicide. With more than 36,000 lives lost each year in the U.S. and over one million worldwide, the importance of AFSP's mission has never been greater, nor our work more urgent.
