Fundraising Page for Portland OR Walk
October 11, 2008 at World Trade Center
UPDATE! A friend of mine and a bestselling author, Cheryl Kaye Tardif, has graciously offered a signed and personalized copy of two of her novels, Whale Song and Divine Intervention, to the first person who donates $100 to the walk in my name. Although the walk is on October 11th, you can continue to donate until December 31, 2008. Thank you Cheryl, you’re an incredible person and incredible author! You can learn more about her books at http://www.cherylktardif.com/
May 6, 2006 I lost my husband John to the terrible and often misunderstood illness of depression. John’s death has devastated our family, friends and colleagues.
On October 11th I will once again be taking part in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Out of the Darkness Community Walk in Portland. I am joining thousands of other walkers nationwide to raise funds for the awareness and prevention of suicide.
The goal of this event is to raise funds for suicide prevention, erase the stigma surrounding suicide and its causes, to encourage those suffering from mental illness to seek treatment, and to show support for the families and friends of the 33,000 Americans who die by suicide and the 20 million people that suffer from depression each year.
Every 16 minutes someone in this country dies as a result of suicide. It is estimated that a suicide attempt is made every one minute. These are completely unacceptable numbers; it means that we must do something now.
To make a tax-deductible donation please follow the instructions on this page (click the "Support Me" button below) or, if you prefer, mail a check to me. The check should be made payable to AFSP. I will mail all checks to AFSP in your name.
John's death has affected so many, we all love him and miss him. Please help me in my efforts of preventing another family from having to know this type of pain.
Together, we can make a difference!
