Dear friends,
My name is Jeff Turning Heart Jr. And I was born and raised on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe reservation in South Dakota and moved to North Dakota for a new life.
Growing up, I have been around suicide and had relatives and friends I knew that took their own lives and even today, I am still around it and I thought to myself, "I want to do something, take a stand and do my absolute best" but what at? Then I knew that running for something was my answer.
During my training for a 5k run, I recently lost a friend to suicide and it hit me hard, like anyone else in that situation. But as I looked past my pain and I seen that a half marathon in Bismarck, North Dakota was approaching, I felt like that is how I could make my mark....to run for those in the darkness and prove that even though their situation or life looks bad, that life still goes on and so should they.
I will be joining with thousands of people nationwide to walk in AFSP's Marathonsto benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. I would appreciate any support that you give me for this worthwhile cause.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is at the forefront of research, education and prevention initiatives designed to reduce loss of life from suicide. With more than 33,000 lives lost each year in the U.S. and over one million worldwide, the importance of AFSP's mission has never been greater, nor our work more urgent.
