Fundraising Page for Orlando 5th Annual Community Walk
February 4, 2012 at Baldwin Park -2420 Lakemont Ave
My name is Anne Yurek and I will be joining with thousands of people nationwide to walk in AFSP's Orlando 5th Annual Community Walk to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. I would appreciate any support that you give me for this worthwhile cause.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is at the forefront of research, education and prevention initiatives designed to reduce loss of life from suicide. With more than 33,000 lives lost each year in the U.S. and over one million worldwide, the importance of AFSP's mission has never been greater, nor our work more urgent.
While the nationwide prevention of suicide and depression awareness is important, it is also something near and dear to my heart. I've struggled with depression going on eight years now, though looking back on my life there were clear signs all though my childhood too. It is my dream that one day people like me will never have to go the the places I've been. They wont have to feel the loneliness, the sadness, the feeling of utter defeat. I can only dream that one day depression will be out in the open, not something pushed to the side and ignored as a "mood." That no one ever feels that they have no where to turn, no one to turn to. That they have the resources they need to know that they are loved, they are cherished, that they are worth so much. It seems every week we hear a new story on the news about a teenager who took their life from bullying and countless other reasons. It saddens me so much, especially knowing that these deaths could have been avoided. With the right resources, the right care, even just the right information, depression can be brought out of the darkness, out of the corners we shove it into and into the light.
I hope you will consider supporting my participation in this event. Any contribution will help the work of AFSP, and all donations are 100% tax deductible.
