Dear Friends,
In the United States, a person dies by suicide every 15 minutes, claiming more than 34,000 lives each year. It is estimated that an attempt is made every minute; with close to one million people attempting suicide annually.
On November 3, 2012, I will be joining with thousands of people nationwide to walk in AFSP's Houston Community Walk to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. I would appreciate any support that you give me for this worthwhile cause. With your participation, I will not just be walking, and you will not just be writing a check - you will be helping to save lives.
As you may know, we lost our beautiful daughter, Lydia, on April 16, 2009. Lydia was 23 years old, and suffered from early onset bi-polar disorder and severe depression from childhood. Not a day goes by that I don't think of her. At times the pain is almost unbearable. I will walk the walk however many times I can to help prevent even one person or family from suffering the pain, heartache, and loss that accompanies suicide.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is at the forefront of research, education and prevention initiatives designed to reduce loss of life from suicide. With more than 33,000 lives lost each year in the U.S. and over one million worldwide, the importance of AFSP's mission has never been greater, nor our work more urgent.
