Dear Friend,
Twenty years ago, my father's battle with depression ended on a cold November day when he took his own life. He did not find his way out of the darkness in time to be saved, so now I walk for him.
And for our friend, George, the gentle giant who wouldn't hurt a fly, yet hurt so deeply inside, he chose to end his life. I walk for him.
And I walk for the survivors of suicide loss. There are millions of us who have suffered this soul shattering loss. Those of us left behind to grieve, often silently, to question and pick up the pieces of our lives that will never, ever fit back into place the way they once did.
So I will be joining thousands of people nationwide to walk in AFSP's Chicagoland Community Walk to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. I would be so grateful for any support that you give me for this worthwhile cause!
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is at the forefront of research, education and prevention initiatives designed to reduce loss of life from suicide. With more than 36,000 lives lost each year in the U.S. and over one million worldwide, the importance of AFSP's mission has never been greater, nor our work more urgent.
