April 10, 2008… The reason why I walk.
On this day I lost one of the most important people in my life, my brother.
I am walking to raise money to fund suicide prevention research and educational programs with the AFSP.
Depression is very real and affects many people you interact with on a daily basis - even if you may not know it. With suicide rates at an all time high - let's get together to raise money for a wonderful cause & to help everyone who is suffering from this disease.
Close to one million people make a suicide attempt each year and every 16 minutes someone dies by suicide in the United States. More than 90 percent of people who die by
suicide have an underlying mental illness, most often depression. More than 24 million people suffer from depression or another mood disorder each year. Suicide affects people of all age groups and socio-economic backgrounds. It is the fourth leading cause of death among adults 18-65.
