Welcome to the Team Katrina "Kara" Tagget fundraising page!

We will be joining with thousands of people nationwide this fall to walk in AFSP's 2009 Out of the Darkness Community Walk to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and we would appreciate any support that you give for this worthwhile cause.

A life is lost to suicide every 16 minutes in the United States, often as a consequence of a psychiatric illness. Suicide is the THIRD leading cause of death among fifteen to twenty-four year olds and the SECOND leading cause of death among college students. Overall, suicide is the NINTH leading cause of death in the United States. For every 2 homicides in the U.S. there are 3 youth suicides. Every 1 hour and 53 minutes, we lose another young person by suicide, that's a Columbine a day!

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is at the forefront of research, education and prevention initiatives designed to reduce loss of life from suicide. With more than 32,000 lives lost each year in the U.S. and over one million worldwide, the importance of AFSP's mission has never been greater, nor our work more urgent.

Katrina "Kara" Tagget died by suicide one year ago. Katrina was 21 years old and a senior studying at Michigan State University. She was to graduate this past spring and pursue a career in law or politics. As she said last summer,"I want to help fight for the rights of others." We have established the Katrina Tagget Memorial Foundation whose mission is to support education and suicide prevention programs.

Team Katrina "Kara" is walking on November 8. You can help our mission by joining the team or making a contribution. Any little bit helps.
