Michael T. Hurley, Sr., 64, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at his residence.

Michael was born on July 21, 1954 in Springfield, the son of James Thomas and Shirley Hazen Hurley. He married Patricia Bruce on October 11, 1975 in Springfield.

He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Michael was a hard worker, amazing carpenter, and mechanically inclined. He was a loyal friend who was always willing to give an extra hand and support. He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, and boating.  

Michael worked as a Union Carpenter, Local 270, before retiring after 27 years.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James and Doug Hurley.

He is survived by his wife, Patty Hurley of Springfield; one son, Michael (wife, Felecia) Hurley, Jr. of Chatham; one daughter, Mandi (husband, Trevor) Tapscott of Springfield; five grandchildren, Morgan and Byron Hurley and Brooke, Hunter and Sydney Tapscott ; two great-grandchildren; five siblings, Mary (husband, Jim) Pershing of Calhan, CO, Nancy Holtzman of Waterloo, IA, Scott (wife, Sherry) Hazen of Springfield, Mark (wife, Reta) Hurley of Springfield, and Janelle Markulakis of Gillespie; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A Memorial Ceremony will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Brian Mills officiating.
