For those of you who know me as Zach's mom, Cameron's mom, Panda's mom, or just mom... And for everyone who has met me at Spark Project Collective or any number of countless shows in Tucson, hi again! Maybe you are a friend of a friend, or a game buddy, or if you're a person that has no idea how I ended up in your contacts list. Chances are if you are active in the music scene here in Tucson then you know someone who has been impacted by suicide.  I welcome every single one of you to come join us for a night of music.  No warm & fuzzy group hug is planned,  I find that the only place I can let go of all the sadness just for a little while is when the music is live and loud.  I wanted to change things up and do something other than your average fundraiser.  So they say do what you know, and music is my therapy.

The concert will be held at the House of Bards (thanks to John Bujak and Judith Bard for their generosity allowing us to have the event at this amazing venue) and it is a 21+ only event.

I know benefits are not necessarily everyone's thing but this will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Arizona Chapter of AFSP.  This organization has 5 core strategies

  •  Fund scientific research
  • Offer educational programs for professionals
  •  Educate the public about mood disorders and suicide prevention
  •  Promote policies and legislation that impact suicide and prevention
  •  Provide programs and resources for survivors of suicide loss and people at risk, and involve them in the work of the Foundation

The artists who have graciously donated their time and energy to this event are all from Tucson and nearby cities.   If you can't come that night, but still want to donate, please do! And if you can't do either one, please share this with everyone you know. Friends, family, anyone. It isn't talked about enough, even though so many people have had someone in their lives affected by suicide in some way or another. Often you don't know that a person is considering suicide, or is profoundly unhappy, until it is too late. Start the conversation, seize the awkward, and talk about it.

My son Zach's favorite quote from Coach Carter (originally written by Marianne Williamson)

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. "
