What Can I Expect on the Day of the Walk?

Parking

Parking will be available at Tate Student Center or the Washington Street Deck in downtown Athens.

Arrival

Please head inside to Tate Student Center to the fifth floor where The ceremony position of the event will be occurring in Tate Grand Hall. You can directly access the fifth floor from the elevators in the parking deck of Tate. When you arrive please head inside the doors of Tate Grand Hall and check-in and if you are brining anyone with you, they can go to the registration table and can register using the QR code- no need to fill out any paperwork. Donations are accepted at the walk. 

If you raised over $100 you qualify for an Out of the Darkness Campus Walk shirt. Please pick up your shirt at the registration table.

  • Event Day Timeline

    • 10:00am – attendees arrive; pick up t-shirts; register if you have not already; grab refreshments, honor beads, make a poster and take photos on the photo wall if you want! 

    • 11:00am – Opening Ceremony: Testimonies from members of the campus and community, a honor bead ceremony, and the giveaway for those who raised 100 dollars.

    • 12:00pm– Walk Begins! 

    • 1:30pm – Walk ends. Grab Items back upstairs in Tate Grand Hall (doors will close and a volunteer will make sure items are safe)

  • Honor Bead Table

    • We all walk for different reasons.  Maybe we have lost someone to suicide, or perhaps we walk because we have friends or family that live with a mental health condition.  It is our goal to honor all of the reasons you choose to walk.

The Out of the Darkness Campus Walks are the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's (AFSP) signature student fundraising series, designed to engage youth and young adults in the fight to prevent suicide, a leading cause of death.

How do I register? Click here to view a step-by-step guide.

I am already registered but I want to create / join a team, how can I change my registration? Log into your account and click on the “change team membership” option on the right hand side of your dashboard tab (on mobile you’ll need to click “dashboard” first). View this video tutorial for more help

Can I register at the Walk? Yes!  You can register in-person at the Walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until June 30th.

 

Is there a registration fee?
No, there is no registration fee to participate.

Is there a fundraising minimum?
No, but we strongly encourage each participant to set a $100 fundraising goal to help support AFSP's work to stop suicide and receive the official walk t-shirt!

If I raise enough money, will my whole team get a shirt?
No. The event shirts are only given to individuals who raise $100. If your whole team wants a shirt, each member must raise $100

 

How do I make an offline donation?
To send a donation by check, please complete this form and send it with your check to the address provided.

Parking, route, and other info will be updated as we get closer to Walk Day.
