Welcome to the Southern Division Team

Chris OwensSpecial message from Chris Owens, AFSP's Senior Director of the Southern Division:

Hi!  I’m Chris Owens, Senior Director for AFSP’s Southern Division and captain for this wellness challenge team.  Our Southern Division staff and volunteers look forward to maintaining the momentum of our strong work while focusing on caring for ourselves as well.  Wellness looks different for everyone and I look forward to logging a variety of activities – running, walking, cycling, and fine tuning my fly fishing!  There are so many things to do to care for your mental garden.  And these all bring us #TogetherToFightSuicide and #OutoftheDarkness!

Southern Division Team Info:

The Southern Division is home to chapters and events based in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

We'll feature a variety of staff, volunteers, and participants throughout the duration of the Wellness Challenge (August 3rd - September 13th) to help you feel even more connected as you take daily action to bring a sense of mindfulness to why mental health and suicide prevention are important to you.

In the meantime, please make sure you take the following steps as soon as possible:

  1. Register for an Out of the Darkness Experience hosted by a state in the Southern Division
  2. Download the Kilter Rewards app
  3. Once you've downloaded the app, choose JOIN EVENT and create your account (Event name: AFSP Out of the Darkness Wellness Campaign)
  4. Click the "Join" button on the event page and scroll the list to find the AFSP Southern Division team
  5. Complete your profile and review the event rules

Please note: you will not begin earning points for activities until the challenge begins on Monday, August 3rd.

We encourage you to update your profile pic in the Kilter Rewards app to the Southern Division icon below so you can easily recognize fellow team members as you scroll through the leaderboard. Simply click the image below to download and save it to your mobile device.

Visit the AFSP Event Page to learn more about this virtual wellness event and download social share graphics, and read and save this flyer with the event details to share with friends and family. Invite them to join you to take action for suicide prevention and mental health!
