Welcome to the Central Division Team!
Special message from Janice Hurtado-Aeppli, AFSP's Senior Director of the Central Division:
Welcome to the Out of the Darkness Wellness Challenge! I’m your Central Division Team Captain, Janice Hurtado Aeppli. I lost my cousin to suicide and I want to do all I can to #StopSuicide.
During this 6 week challenge, we will be intentional about taking care of our physical, mental, and spiritual health. Let’s earn points together as we engage in wellness activities. Some things I’ll be doing: hiking with my family, biking, walking the dog, going to church with my parents, journaling, and raising funds for this year’s Out of the Darkness Experience (afsp.org/FightSuicide). I hope you’ll join me and take that extra step - add onto the things you already do and try at least one new activity a week. You Are Not Alone!
The Central Division is home to chapters and events based in Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Texas.
We'll feature a variety of staff, volunteers, and participants throughout the duration of the Wellness Challenge (August 3rd - September 13th) to help you feel even more connected as you take daily action to bring a sense of mindfulness to why mental health and suicide prevention are important to you.
In the meantime, please make sure you take the following steps as soon as possible:
- Register for an Out of the Darkness Experience hosted by a state in the Central Division
- Download the Kilter Rewards app
- Once you've downloaded the app, choose JOIN EVENT and create your account (Event name: AFSP Out of the Darkness Wellness Campaign)
- Click the "Join" button on the event page and scroll the list to find the AFSP Central Division team
- Complete your profile and review the event rules
Please note: you will not begin earning points for activities until the challenge begins on Monday, August 3rd.
We encourage you to update your profile pic in the Kilter Rewards app to the Central Division icon below so you can easily recognize fellow team members as you scroll through the leaderboard. Simply click the image below to download and save it to your mobile device.
