Connect With Others and Save Lives

These events give people the courage to open up about their own connections to the cause, and a platform to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention. Friends, family members, neighbors and coworkers walk side-by-side, supporting each other and in memory of those we’ve lost. With more than 400 events across all 50 states, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved:

Create or Join a Team
Whether you are walking with a school, club, corporation, or family and friends, this is the best way to get everyone together under the same banner.

Team Captains create the team, email team members, organize team fundraisers, and lead the team the day of the event. Not ready to lead a team yet? No problem! If someone else is willing to be the Team Captain you can always register as a team member by selecting "join a team." 

Participate as an Individual
Although no one ever walks alone, you can always register as an individual and meet other members of the community the day of the event.

All participants will have options to get involved in-person (when and where it's safe to do so) and online, so be sure to register to stay up to date on the latest event news and activities as more information becomes available.

Volunteer
Want to volunteer on the event planning committee? Be sure to register as an event participant, then contact the organizer listed on the event page for more details about how you can help!  Volunteers can also join or create teams.

Donate to an Out of the Darkness Participant

Looking to make a donation to someone participating in an Out of the Darkness Walk? Click HERE and type the walker name or team name into the search bar.

*Please note: donations must be made to a participant on a team rather to the team in general. If you're on the team page, click "Roster" to select a team walker to donate to. Your contribution will be included in the team's fundraising total.

Organize an Out of the Darkness event
Don't see an event in your community? Our Out of the Darkness events are led by volunteers like you across the country each year between September and November, and you can join the fight against suicide by starting a walk near you. Email walks@afsp.org with your city and state, and we'll connect you with an AFSP staff member from your region for more information.

Sponsor the Out of the Darkness Walks
The Out of the Darkness Sponsor Program provides the opportunity for companies to take an active role in suicide prevention by joining our network in more than 400 cities nationwide. There are several opportunities for your company to make a difference, including National Sponsorships, Retail Opportunities, Multi-Market & National Team Participation, and Local Sponsorships. Some Out of the Darkness Walks feature community resource tables to provide information about local resources and support related to our cause, and some offer sponsor and vendor tables for a fee or as a benefit of walk sponsorship. You can view our tabling guidelines HERE. Please note: AFSP reserves the right to determine who may table, speak, or otherwise have a presence at our events.
