Our Hampton Roads Out of the Darkness Walk has welcomed thousands of walkers over the past 11 years at Mount Trashmore. Thank you for your support. While the Walk was always well attended, we also heard from many of you, our walkers, requesting a change. You wanted a more intimate walk, where you can meet others, focused on survivors and people who are struggling, and easily accessible, in your local community. We heard you loud and clear. This year, a great team of local AFSP volunteers have stepped up to chair and plan memorable and healing Walks in four locations: Newport News, Suffolk, Virginia Beach and Norfolk. We are excited to offer you four options to walk, donate and support in the Fall of 2017.

When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.

As the leader in the fight against suicide, and thanks to walkers like you from cities across the country, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.

We need YOU. Walk with us in one or more walks this Fall. Every dollar raised gets us one step closer to a world without suicide.

From the funds raised over the last 11 years of hosting walks in the Hampton Roads area, AFSP is proud to present suicide prevention education programs to your community. We can provide free training to your company, church, school or community group.

Consider hosting a Talk Saves Lives program, our Suicide Prevention 101 class. Learn about the risks and warning signs of suicide and how together, we can prevent it.

Our More than Sad, Teen Depression and Preventing Teen Suicide program can be presented to high school students, parents and educators.

Please Contact Crystal Graham at cgraham@afsp.org to learn how you can host a program.

Please help promote the event(s) through your social media outlets! #OutoftheDarkness
