The Michael Shawn Sousa Foundation (MSSF) was founded in memory of our son who took his life in August of 2010 at the age of 24. It was a complete shock to our entire family and his friends of which he had many. As we have now come to know, suicide is the third leading cause of death among males between the ages of 15-24. As of 2010, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. and has been steadily rising since 2000. Through its mission, the MSSF supports leading organizations such as the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, which researches, provides support and raises awareness nationally and globally.

Michael was a bright, funny, energetic young man with a heart of gold. He loved his family, friends and making people laugh. Michael was passionate about many things; music, nature, travel, and animals. He loved North Attleboro and we would like to honor his memory by supporting local organizations, like the animal shelter, so that the legacy of his kindness can live on.
