We're going to be doing a .8 mile partially-shaded loop on mostly sidewalks around campus. Walking time will be capped at an hour. It takes about 15 minutes to do a loop, so feel free to walk once, twice, three times, whatever you want (or just hang out at all the neat tables and activities).

Parking: Fees waived for the day, park on the South end of Lot 16 (marked on map)
The walk will start at the Housing Lawn on the FAU Boca Raton campus.
From 9AM - 10AM, please sign in and join us for breakfast and activities. Check out our “Resource Fair” and “Activities of Hope and Healing” sections for additional details!
DJ VERTIGO (official DJ for the Marlins) will be donating his time and skills for the walk!
Owlsley will also be making an appearance!
Make sure to arrive early to allow time to explore the resources area.
Information tables hosted by local businesses and non-profit organizations will open at 9:00 am. This will be an opportunity to gather literature, hear about upcoming events, and connect with others who are dedicated to raising awareness of mental illness and suicide, strengthening prevention efforts, and providing support to those impacted by suicide loss.
Featured Guests so far include:
FAU Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) will be providing suicide prevention resources, including information about free trainings available on campus to students and staff.
FAU Lead and Serve will be hosting an activity for walkers to discuss goals and dreams for the future, to empower and instill hope.
Leave a Note, Take a Note:
Hosted by FAU Multicultural Student Affairs, walkers will have an opportunity to write short notes of positive affirmation for each other. You are strong. You are beautiful. You are loved.
Memory Wall - Lighting up the Darkness:
Hosted by FAU Active Minds, walkers will have an opportunity to write down who or what they are walking for on yellow lightbulb/flame cut outs and help “light up the darkness” in this collaborative, interactive collage
FAU Owls Care will be hosting a relaxation station with aromatherapy, coloring, etc
The FAU College of Nursing will be hosting Heart Math, which can provide personalized biofeedback data about their stress response!
FAU Multicultural Student Affairs will be providing walkers with information about on- and off-campus supportive resources for the LGBT community.
Veteran Owls will be providing walkers with information about on- and off-campus supportive resources for the Veteran community.
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.
The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance and a walk that unites a community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones. We all wear honor beads - each color shows our personal connection to the cause, and helps us identify others who understand our experience
We'll have a closing ceremony around 11AM that'll include student performances and yoga by Yoga Journey's Pam Leal.

When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.
As the leader in the fight against suicide, and thanks to walkers like you from cities across the country, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.
