The annual Sacramento Out of the Darkness Community Walk will take place on Saturday 9/30/17 at the State Capitol and the Greater Sacramento Area Chapter is excited to host another great event with your help!

Fundraising Incentives

Early Registration Challenge:

Get your team name printed on the official event T-Shirts! Register your team now and click here for details to have your team name featured on the 2017 Out of the Darkness Walk T-Shirts.

All registered walkers will receive information about fundraising incentives for fundraising milestones throughout the walk season.

  • The top fundraising team by 9/29/17 will carry the banner on walk day!
  • Raise $150 by walk day, and receive a 2017 Out of the Darkness Walk T-shirt! 
  • Raise $200 and receive the official Event T-Shirt & a special branded gift from the local Chapter.
  • Raise $1,000 and receive the official Event T-Shirt, the above gift & another special incentive prize.
  • Other recognition gifts are available for milestones as well.

Sponsorship Opportunities:

Download the full Sacramento Walk Sponsorship Packet or the one page Sponsorship Flyer. With sponsorship opportunities starting at only $250, this is a perfect opportunity for large and small businesses to play a role in making suicide prevention a priority in the community. All sponsors will receive marketing and publicity benefits!

Help Spread the Word: Share Your Walk


Walk Details & Activities:

The 2017 Community Walk will be another great event and we are looking forward to growing it again this fall. Encourage others to walk with us to fight suicide. Registration is free!

We are excited to once again be at the West Steps of the State Capitol this fall and have a great program of speakers lined up. Registration opens at 9:00am, and the walk program will begin at 10:00am.

There are transit and parking options to get to the site, and we will have new merchandise available at the walk as well.

Our Route:

Our walk route will be approximately 3 miles over level and mostly paved surfaces that is very accessible to all of our walkers. We will begin and end at the Capitol and will walk through the downtown area. If you would like to walk only part of the walk route, you will be able to turn back at any point, and we will have event volunteers along the way to help with questions.

Remembrance Activities:

Honor Beads will be available to all participants and you are welcome and encouraged to take beads to wear on the day of the walk. If you would like to know more about the Honor Beads, click here to find out what they signify.

We'll  have our Remembrance Posters are available for donation/purchase and will be displayed along the walk route during the event. These posters will be made using your photo submissions and will be available to pick up and take home after the walk. CLICK HERE for details about how to order your Remembrance Poster.

Volunteer With Us on Walk Day:

Volunteer with us on Walk Day and help us make the Sacramento Out of the Darkness Community Walk a success. Our walk is planned and managed by Volunteers just like you, and we would love to have your help on the day of the walk. 

We'll have volunteers helping with everything from Event Set Up & Breakdown to Food and Beverage Stations, the Honor Bead Tent, Route Support, Prize Giveaways, and much more!

Help Spread the Word

Help us spread the word about the Out of the Darkness Walks by distributing flyers in your neighborhood. Downtown areas, local businesses and schools, and high traffic events all make the perfect places to post flyers.Contact us and we'll be glad to email some flyers directly to you.

This year's Sacramento Out of the Darkness Community Walk will be held again at the West Steps of the State Capitol.

  • Parking: There is some street parking available in the downtown area, and many parking garages near the venue.


*Online registration closes at noon (local time) the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk during the check-in times listed above. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.
