Hawk Island County Park is a 100 acre park, located on Cavenaugh Road, between Pennsylvania Ave and Aurelius Rd in south Lansing. The walk will be approx. 3 miles on paved walkways.

Remember, in addition to fundraising online, you will be able to turn in additional cash or check donations at the registration table the day of the Walk.
Make sure to arrive early to allow time to explore the resources area.
Information tables hosted by local businesses and non-profit organizations will open at 9:00 am. This will be an opportunity to gather literature, hear about upcoming events, and connect with others who are dedicated to raising awareness of mental illness and suicide, strengthening prevention efforts, and providing support to those impacted by suicide loss.
New this year we are allowing teams to bring their 10x10 tents and set up in a designated area to spend time together before and after the event. Bring picnic fixings for a wonderful lunch after the walk at the beautiful park.
Think of it as tailgating before the event!!
We will be having a small art project that walkers will be able to take home with them thanks to Painted Teal in Grand Ledge!!
We will have a Silent Auction table with items donated by members of the community. The Silent Auction will begin at 9:30 am and will continue throughout the walk until the closing ceremonies begin (approximately 1230pm). The winner of each auction item must be present to win.
Take your team photos with some of our #stopsuicide props to share on social media to spread awareness!
Be sure to bring a photo of your loved one to be displayed in the remembrance tent. Write a letter to your loved one.
Leave a message of hope and love for those lost to the tragedy of suicide, or for yourself as a reminder of how important it is to stay around.
Everyone will be able to pick up honor beads that represent their journey and connection to the cause. We will also be doing an Honor Beads ceremony to highlight one person for each connection and share their stories.
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.
The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance and a walk that unites a community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones. We all wear honor beads - each color shows our personal connection to the cause, and helps us identify others who understand our experience

Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome at the event. AND - with a $10 donation, you can pick up an AFSP Pooch bandana at the Paws for Prevention Tent.
Online registration closes at noon the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.
When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.
Thanks to Walkers and Donors like you, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.
