Online registration closes at noon (local time) the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

Out of the Darkness Community Walk

The walk is a 5k (3.1 miles). The walk will begin at the Ironton Bridge and continue to Bogert's Covered Bridge. You will continue to the Robin Hood Bridge and loop back around to the Ironton Bridge.

Honor Beads:
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.

The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance and a walk that unites a community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones. We all wear honor beads - each color shows our personal connection to the cause, and helps us identify others who understand our experience


Make sure to arrive early to allow time to explore the resources area.
Information tables hosted by local businesses and non-profit organizations will open at 11am. This will be an opportunity to gather literature, hear about upcoming events, and connect with others who are dedicated to raising awareness of mental illness and suicide, strengthening prevention efforts, and providing support to those impacted by suicide loss.


Bring the whole family and enjoy fun activities with you little ones at our Family Activity area! Face painting will be included!




Our largest walk was in 2016 – let’s continue to grow the great Lehigh Valley AFSP community! Although there is no fee to walk and there is not a fundraising requirement, every dollar raised helps the AFSP Lehigh Valley PA chapter bring much-needed suicide prevention and support programs to our local communities. There are three small things you can do to kick-start your fundraising work:

How is the money used? 81 cents of every dollar raised goes right into our programs. A hot focus area right now is that we are bringing AFSP's middle and high school teen suicide prevention education to local schools. Walk fundraising lets our chapter increase those types of activities.

This website is designed for online donations. On the day of the walk, you can also bring cash or checks (made out to “American Foundation for Suicide Prevention”). And don’t miss our Walker Central (insert walker central page) website for some great tips and some great social media apps to help you promote your walk participation. 


The walk will take place rain or shine. We encourage walkers to arrive at 11AM when registration opens, so that you have ample time to check-in and then enjoy all of the pre-walk activities we have to offer.

When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.

As the leader in the fight against suicide, and thanks to walkers like you from cities across the country, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.
