Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome at the event. AND - with a $10 donation, you can pick up an AFSP Pooch bandana at the Paws for Prevention Tent.  Come show off your prevention supporting pup.  Flagstaff loves our dog friends and Buffalo Park is very dog friendly.  Please remember to pick up after your dog and be careful of the cactus.

Make sure to arrive early to allow time to explore the resources area.
Information tables hosted by local businesses and non-profit organizations will open at 8am. This will be an opportunity to gather literature, hear about upcoming events, and connect with others who are dedicated to raising awareness of mental illness and suicide, strengthening prevention efforts, and providing support to those impacted by suicide loss.

Please join us as we offer a moment of healing and hope.  Local Flagstaff families are working to help offer moments of tribute through a remembrance tree where you will be able to add the name of someone you lost to suicide.  Feel free to bring a copy of a photo to add to our tree. Please do not bring original photos as we can not guarantee that photos will be returned.

Some days people need a little encouragement.  The Flagstaff group is working to create a hope line fill of messages of encouragement to those who may be currently struggling with mental health issues.

Want to contribute another activity to our first annual walk?  Please email us at OutofthedarknessFLG@gmail.com.  We are open to ideas and volunteers.

Honor Beads:
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.

The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance and a walk that unites a community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones. We all wear honor beads - each color shows our personal connection to the cause, and helps us identify others who understand our experience

Online registration closes at noon the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.

As the leader in the fight against suicide, and thanks to walkers like you from cities across the country, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.

Click the Register Now button at the top of the page to get started right away.

Thank you for your support! We look forward to seeing you at the walk!
