Due to the number of South Texans directly and indirectly impacted by the recent storms and the community’s participation in recovery efforts, the walk has been rescheduled for January 14.  This was a very difficult decision and our hearts go out to all who have suffered loss due to Hurricane Harvey.  

We realize the rebuilding process will be a long one and we understand the community’s need to focus on relief efforts.  In the meantime, please know that mental health and suicide prevention services are available.  If you or anyone you know is in crisis, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline – 1 (800) 273-TALK (8255).

Suicide prevention programming will continue in our community.

Thank you for understanding and we look forward to your attendance in January and the at the events leading up to walk.

 

Online registration closes at noon (local time) the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

You can give in support of our community, in memory/honor of a loved one, to support the cause, or give the gift as a charitable donation!  Donating on a friend or family member’s page is a great way to show your support of their efforts, too.

Please come early/stay late! - Visit the Community Resources Tables, AFSP Merchandise Table, Sponsor’s Tables, Food Trucks, Silent Auction, Children/Teen Activities and Team photos. 

WALK ROUTE

The Walk is 3.2 miles starting from the Nelson Wolff Stadium, through the Leon Creek South Trail and back to the Stadium.  Three water stations along the trail.  Medical support available on the trail.

For those who are unable to use the stairs, an alternate route to the trail entrance is available.

EARN A T-SHIRT

Each walker must raise $150 individually to receive a t-shirt.  In addition to fundraising online, you can turn in cash, check and submit credit cards transactions when checking in the day of the Walk.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES 

This is your opportunity to gather literature, hear about upcoming events, and connect with others who are dedicated to raising awareness of mental illness and suicide, strengthening prevention efforts, and providing support to those impacted by suicide loss.

If you are a survivor of suicide loss, we encourage you to bring a photo of your loved one to be displayed.

MEMORY WALL

Remembrance Activity designed for participants to honor their loved ones by writing a name, encouraging message or inspiring quote to those they are remembering/supporting.

HONOR BEADS

Remember to pick up your Honor Beads.  Each color shows our personal connection to the cause, and helps us identify others who understand our experience.

TEAM CHALLENGE

Have your own Team Sign displayed at the walk. To be eligible for a Team Sign, your team must meet these levels by November 24th, 2017.

Raise $500 for a BRONZE TEAM SIGN
Raise $1,000 for a SILVER TEAM SIGN
Raise $2,500 for a GOLD TEAM SIGN
Raise $5,000 for a PLATINUM TEAM BANNER

PAWS

Please note that pets are not allowed at Nelson Wolff Stadium (site of opening/closing ceremony); however, the trail (actual walk site) does. Service animals are always welcome.

When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.

As the leader in the fight against suicide, and thanks to walkers like you from cities across the country, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.
