Welcome to the Out of the Darkness Twin Cities Walk

When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.

Thanks to Walkers and Donors like you, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.

WALK ROUTE

The walk route is just about 3 miles and is fully accessible.  There are some small hills to navigate however.  Wear sturdy walking shoes and dress in layers - we walk rain or shine!

PAWS FOR PREVENTION

Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome at the event.  AND - with a $5 donation, you can pick up an AFSP pet bandana in the retail area.

RESOURCE FAIR

Make sure to arrive early to allow time to explore the resources area.  Information tables hosted by local businesses and non-profit organizations will open until 2:00pm.  This will be an opportunity to gather literature, hear about upcoming events, and connect with others who are dedicated to raising awareness of mental illness and suicide, strengthening prevention efforts, and providing support to those impacted by suicide loss.

FAMILY ACTIVITIES

We will have Food Trucks and bigger and better family activities right after the walk.  Join us until 2:00pm for an afternoon of making family memories!

Honor Beads: Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through.  Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.

The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of rememberance and a walk that unites a community - a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones.  We all wear honor beads - each color shows our personal connection to the cause, and helps us identify others who understand our experience.  Honor Beads are available complimentary, at the walk in the designated tent.

Online registration closes at noon (local time) the Friday before the walk.  However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts.  Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.

As the leader in the fight against suicide, and thanks to walkers like you from cities across the country, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.
