ACTIVITIES OF HOPE AND HEALING

Garden of Angels

Bring a picture of your loved you to add to the Garden of Angels as you pass by on your walk. Take a moment in the Garden to share a flower in remembrance of those we have lost, and to support those who struggle.

Steps in Silence

As our walkers approach the Garden of Angles, we ask for Steps In Silence – a time for reflection as you approach those spending time in the Garden.

Children’s Activities

Join the staff and volunteers from The Garden: The Center for Grieving Children and Teens at the School St Park playground and pavilion for a collection of healing activities for our youngest walkers and some good old fashion fun and exercise on the playground.

Be The Voice Sign Station

Be the Voice for suicide Prevention and share your message withyour fellow walkers and community Take advantage of the supplies on hand to make a sign to carry along the walk route!

Honor Beads:

Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.

The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance and a walk that unites a community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones. We all wear honor beads - each color shows our personal connection to the cause, and helps us identify others who understand our experience

BBQ EVENT

After the Walk, stick around for the first annual BBQ event! Enjoy live music, games and activities along with hot dogs, hamburgs and delicious picnic sides. Tickets for the BBQ are $10 each, children 10 and under are free. Tickets available now and on site at the walk.

THANK YOU to Rusty’s Place for the generous donation of their time and efforts to make this BBQ possible!

Online registration closes at noon (local time) the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.

As the leader in the fight against suicide, and thanks to walkers like you from cities across the country, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.

Click the Register Now button at the top of the page to get started right away.

Thank you for your support! We look forward to seeing you at the Walk!
