Online registration closes at noon (local time) the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Registration is free and open to the public. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.

Thanks to Walkers and Donors like you, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.

WALK ROUTE

Join us for the 2nd annual Columbus Out of the Darkness Community Walk.  WERACOBA Park at Lakebottom - Bandstand Area, 1505 Cherokee Ave., Columbus, GA 31901.

There is no entry fee and no minimum donation, but all we do in Georgia comes from funds raised right here.

On street parking and limited off street parking (17th St, between 18th Ave and Cherokee Ave.)

The walk is @ 1.25 miles (once around the park).  Click HERE to see map.

 

PAWS FOR PREVENTION

Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome at the event. AND – AFSP Paws for Prevention Pooch Bandana - $10 donation

MARKETPLACE & RESOURCE FAIR

Make sure to arrive early to allow time to explore the resources area.

We will be selling Be The Voice merchandise and more.  Cash, check (made out to AFSP), and credit card accepted.

Information tables hosted by local businesses and non-profit organizations will open at 10:00 am. This will be an opportunity to gather literature, hear about upcoming events, and connect with others who are dedicated to raising awareness of mental illness and suicide, strengthening prevention efforts, and providing support to those impacted by suicide loss.

FAMILY ACTIVITIES

         

Join us for our awesome cross fit ‘warm up’! … and push up challenge! 

Special speakers and other activities before and after the walk, as well as encouraging surprises along the route! 

ACTIVITIES OF HOPE AND HEALING

Messages of Hope:

Special areas and activities for walkers to create a "message of hope" for themselves, someone they know, or someone who might be struggling. We want to spread the message that it is possible to overcome suicidal thoughts
and there are many resources available to help.
