WALK ROUTE

We will start at the Butte Chamber of Commerce and walk along the Blacktail Creek Trail to Harrison Avenue and back.

If the 5K distance is too much, feel free to walk as much or as little as you are comfortable doing. You can also register as a walker and volunteer with us at the start/end point or a water station along the route, or you can register as a VIRTUAL walker if you can’t join us in person but would still like to raise funds.

RESOURCE FAIR

Make sure to arrive early to the event to allow time to explore the resources area.  Information tables hosted by local businesses and non-profit organizations will open at 1:00 pm.  This will be an opportunity to gather literature, hear about upcoming events, and connect with others who are dedicated to raising awareness of mental illness and suicide, strengthening prevention efforts, and providing support to those impacted by suicide loss. If your business or organization would like to get involved, please reach out to our walk chair about Resource Fair opportunities.

ACTIVITIES OF HOPE AND HEALING

Arts & Crafts Table:

Get creative and decorate a small sign in memory of a loved one, or with words of hope and encouragement for you to carry and display during the walk and take home as a keepsake of the day. Markers and colored pencils will be provided, along with tape and glue. Bring any photos or embellishments you wish to include on your sign.

Honor Beads:

Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.

The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance and a walk that unites a community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones. We all wear honor beads - each color shows our personal connection to the cause, and helps us identify others who understand our experience.

WHITE - LOST A CHILD
RED -  LOST A SPOUSE OR PARTNER
GOLD - LOST A PARENT
ORANGE - LOST A SIBLING
PURPLE - LOST A RELATIVE OR FRIEND
SILVER -  LOST FIRST RESPONDER / MILITARY
GREEN - STRUGGLED PERSONALLY
BLUE - SUPPORT THE CAUSE
TEAL - FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF SOMEONE WHO STRUGGLES
