Online registration closes at noon (local time) the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Registration is free and open to the public. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

WALK ROUTE

The walk will begin at the Pavilion and it will continue around our beautiful park. There will be signs along the route. The walk is mainly flat surface and you can walk as much or as little as you want.

Remember, in addition to fundraising online, you will be able to turn in additional cash or check donations at the registration table the day of the Walk. 

PAWS FOR PREVENTION


Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome at the event.  There is a dog park located on site. Feel free to enjoy this feature with your pets. AND with a $10 donation, you can pick up an AFSP doggie bandana!

RESOURCE FAIR


 

Make sure to arrive early to allow time to explore the resources area.

Information tables hosted by AFSP, National Guard and Vet4Warriors will open at 2:00 pm.  This will be an opportunity to gather literature, hear about upcoming events, and connect with others who are dedicated to raising awareness of mental illness and suicide, strengthening prevention efforts, and providing support to those impacted by suicide loss.

ACTIVITIES OF HOPE AND HEALING

Honor Beads:

Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.

The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance and a walk that unites a community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones. We all wear honor beads - each color shows our personal connection to the cause, and helps us identify others who understand our experience


 

HOW YOU CAN PARTCIPATE

There are multiple ways you can participate. There is no cost to register, but the goal is to raise funds through donations. You can participate as:

The top fundraising Team by shirt order date will have their Team name added to the Walk shirt,

Top fundraising Team by October 14th, will carry the Walk Banner and lead the walk, and

Top fundraising individual by October14thth will cut the Walk Ribbon.

When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.

As the leader in the fight against suicide, and thanks to walkers like you from cities across the country, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.
