ACTIVITIES OF HOPE AND HEALING

Scrapbook:

Create a scrapbook page to be inserted in our Marquette County Out of the Darkness Walk scrapbook that started in 2017. Use supplies at the event to decorate your page or create one at home and bring on the day of the walk sharing pictures, poems, memories, or thoughts. All pages will be added to the scrapbook to be used to assist the Marquette County Suicide Prevention Alliance in raising awareness of suicide prevention efforts and programming in our community.

Honor Beads:

Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.

The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance and a walk that unites a community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones. We all wear honor beads - each color shows our personal connection to the cause, and helps us identify others who understand our experience

WHITE - LOST A CHILD

RED -  LOST A SPOUSE OR PARTNER

GOLD - LOST A PARENT

ORANGE - LOST A SIBLING

PURPLE - LOST A RELATIVE OR FRIEND

SILVER -  LOST FIRST RESPONDER / MILITARY

GREEN - STRUGGLED PERSONALLY

BLUE - SUPPORT THE CAUSE

TEAL - FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF SOMEONE WHO STRUGGLES

Rock Painting:

Participants will be able to decorate individual rocks with inspirational messages of hope and healing. It is encouraged to leave the rock in a random spot in an effort to spread kindness to whoever may find it.

Kite Flying:

Kites will be available for participants to fly at the event, weather permitting, and then taken home to fly again and again. Participants will be encouraged to write wishes of hope or messages to lost loved ones on their kites.

Bubbles:

The walk will conclude with a moment of silence and a collaborative bubble blowing. The bubbles will be used in the closing activity to symbolize a ceremony of remembering, a release of grief, or a celebration of life.

REFRESHMENTS

Snacks, water, and coffee will be available to walkers at the event.

Thank you for your support! We look forward to seeing you at the walk!
