RESOURCE FAIR

Make sure to arrive early to allow time to explore the resources area.

Information tables hosted by local businesses and non-profit organizations will open at 12:00pm. This will be an opportunity to gather literature, hear about upcoming events, and connect with others who are dedicated to raising awareness of mental illness and suicide, strengthening prevention efforts, and providing support to those impacted by suicide loss. If your business or organization would like to get involved, please reach out to our walk chair about Resource Fair opportunities.

ACTIVITIES OF HOPE AND HEALING

In Memorium:

We will have a memorial “wall” for participants to share photos or thoughts of lost loved ones.  In addition, this year we will also have a craft station for you to create your own sign to carry in memory of your loved one(s) and/or inspirational words to share to those in attendance.

Honor Beads:

Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.

The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance and a walk that unites a community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones. We all wear honor beads - each color shows our personal connection to the cause, and helps us identify others who understand our experience

ADDITIONAL EVENTS

We have a number of events associated with the Central Montana Out of the Darkness Walk that we encourage you to attend.  Resources and staff from the Montana Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will be on hand to answer questions.

July 24, 2018:  Painting for Prevention

A great crowd joined us for a night of painting and relaxation in honor of suicide prevention at Brush Crazy in downtown Great Falls.  Fifty percent of the proceeds earned for the evening were donated to the Central Montana Out of the Darkness Walk.  Thanks Brush Crazy!  We earned more than $300!

August 27, 2018:  A Night with the Voyagers and Suicide Prevention

Join us for a night of family fun at the Voyagers baseball game.  For every ticket purchased directly through us, 50% of the proceeds will be donated to the Central Montana Out of the Darkness Walk.  Purchase your ticket from Tiffany Sweeney, the walk chair (see above for contact information) by Thursday, August 23, 2018.  You can also view more information on the Facebook event page.

September 3, 2018:  Raise a Pint Night for Suicide Prevention

Join us for dinner and a drink at Mighty Mo in honor of raising awareness about suicide prevention.  We will receive $1 for every pint purchased during the event.  In addition, we will have a 50/50 Raffle and a Silent Auction in conjunction with the event.  If you are interested in donating to the auction, contact Tiffany Sweeney (contact information listed above).  For more information, view our Facebook event page HERE.

Online registration closes at noon (local time) the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Registration is free and open to the public. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.

As the leader in the fight against suicide, and thanks to walkers like you from cities across the country, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.
