Online registration closes at noon (local time) the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Registration is free and open to the public. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.
When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.
Thanks to Walkers and Donors like you, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.

We will start at the Butte Chamber of Commerce and walk along the Blacktail Creek Trail to Harrison Avenue and back. If the 5K distance is too much, feel free to walk as much or as little as you are comfortable doing.
The Chamber has agreed to have the Trolley available for those who wish to be picked up at the halfway mark. This year the halfway mark will be at Harrison Avenue, so the Trolley will pick up those who need picked up at/near Walgreens.
You can also register as a walker and then volunteer with us at the start/end point or a water station along the route, or you can register as a VIRTUAL walker if you can’t join us in person but would still like to raise funds.
Dogs are welcome along the walking trail. You know best how your dog might react among crowds, but please make sure your dog is leashed for the safety of everyone and every dog.

Activities of Hope and Healing
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.
There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above.
The arts and crafts area will again feature your chance to make a sign with a message of hope and healing or remembrance of a loved one.
We will once again have raffle items that everyone will have an opportunity to win.
* All who register for the walk will get one ticket upon check-in.
* If you are pre-registered for the walk (registered online in advance) you will receive 5 additional tickets.
* Those who raise $150 will receive another ticket.
* For every $50 raised above $150 you will receive another ticket.
You can place your ticket(s) in the bucket for the item(s) you would like to be eligible to win.
Winners will be drawn during the closing ceremony. Need not be present to win.
Additional door prizes will be drawn from all remaining tickets once the major raffle item winners have been locked in.

The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, support, and a walk that unites a campus and community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones.
