Activities of Hope and Healing
We invite you bring a copy of an image of your loved one to place on the Memory Wall. We will have construction paper and markers on hand for personalization. To reserve space for others, please limit it to one photo, and no larger than 8.5x11
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.
There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above.
The Dallas walk is a family friendly event and we encourage you to bring your children to participate in the activities. Journey of Hope will be on site hosting the Kid's Activity Center. Their trained volunteers will be leading children in healing activites like rock painting, memory wall, and more.
Mental health is just as important as physcial health. At the Dallas walk, we will have a special area, secluded from the busy activites, that will be staffed with mental health professionals. Additionally, there will be people around the park wearing We Are Here For You pins - if you need someone to hug, cry with, or just be with, they are a safe space for you.
Make sure to stop by the AFSP Merchandise Table to purchase AFSP swag to support and raise awareness about the cause. Cash and credit cards accepted.
Visit the Resource Fair and Exhibitor Fair tables opening at 8:00 am
Visit the AFSP Booth and review the latest AFSP reference materials and learn how to get involved with the AFSP North Texas Chapter.
Meet local professionals, counselors, staff & representatives from mental health and suicide prevention organizations as well as other groups that support the cause.
Food trucks will be on site throughout the morning. Multiple yummy options for breakfast and lunch at various times. Vendors are donating a percentage of their proceeds to the walk.
Water and snacks & drinking fountains available during the walk.
Enjoy the inflatable a photobooth with AFSP signs and props. Photos are printed out on site and provided at no charge.
The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, support, and a walk that unites a campus and community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones.
