Online registration closes at noon (local time) the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Registration is free and open to the public. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.
When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.
Thanks to Walkers and Donors like you, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.

The Walk is 3.8 miles on a paved path and has water stations along the route.
New Event Parking!!!
This year we have secured parking at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater. Please park at the amphitheater on the day of the walk. We will have trolleys to transport walkers to and from the event site. These trolleys are pet and stroller friendly!
We also encourage carpooling, taxi, Uber, Lyft, and other ride-sharing options.
Early Team Check-In
To avoid possible long lines on Walk day, team captains are invited to Creve Coeur Park (same location as event site) to check-in their team on Friday, Sept. 27, 5-8 pm.
Team captains will receive any t-shirts earned by walkers on the team. Also, they will be able to turn in any additional donations.
Kids are the future, so let's get them involved!
All kids (age 11 and younger) can raise funds for our Out of the Darkness Walk!
Click on this logo to print out a larger version and attach it to a change container. Each child can bring their change to the walk and have it counted! The most raised will get a prize at the walk and all kids will be recognized for their fundraising efforts!

Send your loved one's photo for our "Why We Walk" Photo Board.
Every year, at our AFSP Out of the Darkness Walk, we have photographs of our loved ones on display. Because our walk attendance has grown (and keeps growing each year), if I have created a poster for your loved one for a previous walk, please let me know that you would like it used again. I will not be redesigning past posters/collages. If you are new to the walk and would like to have a photograph of your loved one at this year’s walk, please email a photo and put "Walk Photo" in the subject line, and include in the body of the email the person's name, and any brief message you'd like displayed with the photo to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Photo file type should be jpeg and a high enough resolution that it can be enlarged to 8x10 without getting grainy. If you would like, you can send more than one photo, and I will design a collage. Because of space limitations, each loved one will have only one poster/collage.
When you send your photo, you will receive a reply from me stating that I received it. If you don't receive a reply within 3 days, please resend. Deadline to submit photo(s) is Sept. 22, 2019, but earlier is always appreciated!
You are always welcome to bring your own photo, but please limit it to one, and no larger than 8.5x11.
You will have the opportunity at the walk to have your loved one’s photo/poster made into a permanent fabric square on our memory quilt. Just look for the display of our current Memory Quilts and we'll have a table nearby. For a $5.00 fee to offset the costs, you can reserve a spot on our next quilt for your loved one and all the work will be done for you. For more info on our quilt program, click here.
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.
There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above.
The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, support, and a walk that unites a campus and community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones.
