Online registration closes at noon (local time) the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Registration is free and open to the public. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.
When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.
Thanks to Walkers and Donors like you, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.

Raise $150 individually by September 21st and not only will you receive an official Out of the Darkness t-shirt when you check in at the Walk, but we'll also send you an Out of the Darkness Trucker Hat.
Team Captains Only -- build your team to 6 or more AND raise $250 as a team by September 21st and we'll send you an Out of the Darkness canvas duffel bag.
*Individual and Team Captain milestones must be met at least six weeks (42 days) prior to walk date to qualify for gift. Team captains may qualify for the individual gift in addition to team captain gift. Gifts will be mailed to all qualifiers approximately 4 weeks prior to walk date.
The route starts and ends at the Central Park in Pasadena. The 2.4 mile route goes along the north side of Colorado Blvd and then turns around on Lake to continue along the south side of Colorado Blvd. Part of the route is on the Historic Route 66! (Route is subject to change.) It is fully accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.
There is paid parking throughout Old Town Pasadena including a parking garage across from the park on Raymond called the Del Mar Metro Station. Please note that the metered parking surrounding the park is time limited and you may get ticketed. See https://www.oldpasadena.org/visit/maps-and-parking/ for a list of possible parking options.

Remember, in addition to fundraising online, you will be able to turn in additional cash or check donations at the registration table the day of the Walk.
Walk Teams that raise $2,500 or more online by 9/27 will have their TEAM NAME added to the 2019 Greater Los Angeles - Pasadena Walk t-shirt!
The team that fundraises the most online by 11/1 (the Friday before the event) at noon will carry the AFSP banner and lead the route!
Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome at the event. AND - with a $10 donation, you can pick up an AFSP Pooch bandana at the Paws for Prevention Table.
Make sure to arrive early to allow time to explore the resources area.
Information tables hosted by local businesses and non-profit organizations will open at 8:00 am. This will be an opportunity to gather literature, hear about upcoming events, and connect with others who are dedicated to raising awareness of mental illness and suicide, strengthening prevention efforts, and providing support to those impacted by suicide loss.
Activities of Hope and Healing
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.
There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above.
The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, support, and a walk that unites a campus and community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones.
