*An area will be reserved for yoga mats for yoga & meditation as walkers return from the trail. Please bring your mat, if you would like to join in!

Online registration closes at noon (local time) the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Registration is free and open to the public. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

Welcome to the Out of the Darkness Fort Worth Walk

When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.

Thanks to Walkers and Donors like you, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.

Walk Route

Our 3k walk follows the Trinity Trail from The Shops at Clearfork. Trail access is wide and can accommodate strollers and wheelchairs. Friendly, leashed dogs are permitted and encouraged to visit our “Paws for Prevention” tent!

T-Shirts

Raise $150 by 09/14/2019 and receive an official Out of the Darkness Walk T-shirt!

Remember, in addition to fundraising online, you will be able to turn in additional cash or check donations at the registration table the day of the Walk.

Team Incentives

Walks teams that raise $1000 or more online by August 9th will have their TEAM NAME added to the 2019 Fort Worth Walk t-shirt!

Walks teams that raise $2500 or more online by August 30th will have a TEAM TENT WITH DONUTS!

The team with the highest online fundraising total on September 13th (the Friday before the event) at noon will carry the AFSP banner and lead the route!             

Paws for Prevention

Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome at the event. AND - with a $10 donation, you can pick up an AFSP Pooch bandana at the Paws for Prevention Tent.

Resource Fair

Make sure to arrive early to allow time to explore our community partners and resources area!  Information tables hosted by local businesses and non-profit mental health organizations will open at 8 am.  This will be an opportunity to gather literature, hear about upcoming events, and connect with others who are dedicated to raising awareness of mental illness and suicide, strengthening prevention efforts, and providing support to those impacted by suicide loss.

Family Activities

Join us for raffle prizes, kids’ activities, live music with the Zach Coffey Band and more!      

 Activities of Hope and Healing

Memorial Wall: If you are a survivor of suicide loss, we encourage you to bring a non-returnable photo of your loved one to the event to add to the Memorial Wall.

Wall of Hope: Share your story, leave a message of hope or anything you want to share with walkers.                                                   

Honor Beads

Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.

There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above.

 

The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, support, and a walk that unites a campus and community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones.
