We have SURPASSED our initial GOAL! Presently -- we are at $13,122!  WOO HOO! We could have not done it without each and everyone of you!

We are excited to announce that we have RAISED our overall goal to $15000, and know that, with everyone's help... we can surpass that as well by the "END" of the Walk (5/17/20)!

Note:  Fundraising 'open' until June 30th!

Together we can #stopsuicide and create a culture that is positive about mental health!

In addition, CONGRATS to Trinity Kenney,  our new top fundraiser, as well as the other 18 people who raised over $50 new dollars between 4/2 and 4/5 and won a HOPE T-shirt!

However.. Fundraising is only part of the way you can still participate in the Walk! Make sure to join us for the following events:

The safety and well-being of our participants is our top priority. We know that these are uncertain times, and if you are feeling extra anxious please see the blog post from AFSP’s Doreen Marshall, Ph.D., on how to take care of your mental health in the face of uncertainty as well as 8 ways to manage our anxiety surrounding coronavirus.

There are still so many ways to continue to raise awareness and funds for the cause, and to “virtually” walk with us.

- Be on the Stream Team! Stream to raise funds and show everyone what you are doing instead of walking on that day. You can also go on Facebook Live or IGTV to share with everyone on social.

You will still receive a free shirt for raising $100!

You can still receive super cool Walk swag!

Please continue to take care of yourself, and thank you for your dedication and support of AFSP and preventing suicide at the University at Albany.

Honor Beads

Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental health condition can sometimes feel as if no one understands what you are going through. Wearing honor beads the day of the walk is a way to show each other that we are all connected to the cause, and that no one is alone.

There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above.

The Out of the Darkness Campus Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, support, and a walk that unites a campus and community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones.

Walk donations are accepted until June 30th.

When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.

As the leader in the fight against suicide, and thanks to walkers like you from cities across the country, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.
