Welcome to the Out of the Darkness Lubbock Experience

While the Lubbock Out of the Darkness Walk is going to look different this year, our mission to Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide has not changed. Mental Health and suicide prevention are more important than ever. We are a strong and resilient community, united in our effort to fight suicide, raise awareness, educate our communities, support those who have lost loves ones, and support those with lived experience. We use our voices and share our stories to provide hope.

The Walk is still happening, just in a new and creative way! While we may not be able to gather all together this year, participants and their teams will be safely walking throughout neighborhoods and parks all across our community, in honor of the person(s) for whom they walk and in commemoration of the 2020 Lubbock Out of the Darkness Experience. This is an opportunity to bring our messages of hope and awareness to the places we call home! We are asking our walkers to engage in an Out of the Darkness activity during National Suicide Prevention Week, September 6th-12th. To make your experience unique, we encourage you to chalk your walk, decorating sidewalks with words of HOPE, or to walk your way, and map out a walk route in your neighborhood. Share your miles walked so we can calculate how many miles we walked together to fight suicide. So wear your OOTD walk t-shirts and beads with prides and share your experiences in our HOPE Hub or on social media using our hashtags #TexasTogether and #TogethertoFightSuicide.

We are working hard to identify how we will distribute the favorite parts of our Out of the Darkness events, like the honor beads, AFSP literature, local resource materials, and t-shirts. We are also upping our game with more incentives and activities than ever before. We want to keep you up-to-date with the most current information so be sure to register now!

We remain dedicated to providing you with opportunities to connect, heal, share stories, create impact, and show you that you are not alone. This is going to be a memorable and ground-breaking year and we hope you'll join us in our mission to Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide.

We are always, #TogetherToFightSuicide

Registration is free and open to the public. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

Activities of Hope and Healing

Honor Beads

Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection. There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above. Learn more by watching our honor bead video.

The Out of the Darkness Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.
