While, the Out of the Darkness Indianapolis Walk is going to look different this year, our mission to Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide has not changed. We aren’t able to all gather together at Celebration Plaza this year, but we are a strong and resilient community, united in our effort to fight suicide, raise awareness, educate our communities, support those who have lost loved ones, and support those with lived experience. We use our voices and share our stories to provide hope. We invite you to join us this Fall for an Out of the Darkness Experience. We’re working hard to plan meaningful opportunities to connect and inspire you, and we will share more details about our exciting plans in the coming weeks. We want to keep you up-to-date with the most current information so be sure to register today!
Registered Indy Team Captains will be getting additional details about resource, bracelets, beads, 2020 Indy t-shirts (for individuals who raise $150+) pick up taking place on 9/12.

By registering for the Out of the Darkness Indianapolis Experience, you join a strong community united in an effort to fight suicide while showing up for yourself, recognizing and honoring those you love, raising awareness, educating communities, supporting one another, and sharing hope.
All participants can create and join teams. This is a great way to motivate family, friends, and co-workers to join you!
Registered walkers will be emailed updates and invites to activities/events, as well as given the opportunity to participate for incentive prizes. The Indy Experience will continue through 2020.
Individuals who raise $150 or more will receive a 2020 Indianapolis Out of the Darkness t-shirt! You can fundraise through December 31st and still get a shirt.
Indianapolis Experience FAQs
When and where is the event taking place?
The ceremony for the 2020 Indianapolis walk will be online this year and will be available starting at 3PM on Saturday, September 12th. We are still encouraging everyone to connect in our community, just in a different way. You can walk in your favorite park, make your loved ones favorite meal, workout, do a relaxing activity, have a Zoom party with your team, or any other healing and connecting experience.
How should I share the photos of my experience?
Share your photos to connect us all together by tagging @afspindiana and using hashtag #afspindiana on social media or emailing them to firstname.lastname@example.org
Is there a fundraising minimum?
No, but we strongly encourage each participant to set a $150 fundraising goal to help support AFSP's work to stop suicide and receive the official event t-shirt!
Is there a registration fee?
No, there is no registration fee to participate.
How do I make an offline donation?
To send a donation by check, please complete this form and send it with your check to the address provided.

Online registration closes at noon (local time) the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Registration is free and open to the public. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

It is important to be proactive about your mental health during uncertain times. If you or someone you know has a mental illness, is struggling emotionally, or has concerns about their mental health, there are ways to get help. These resources can be used for support in addition to situations of crisis.
You are not alone. We are in this together.

Activities of Hope and Healing
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection. There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above. Learn more by watching our honor bead video.
The Out of the Darkness Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.
