The Pleasant Grove High School Campus Walk is still happening virtually, so you can continue to raise awareness & funds while asking others to join you as a Virtual Walker.
The safety and well-being of our participants is our top priority. We know that these are uncertain times, and if you are feeling extra anxious please see the blog post from AFSP’s Doreen Marshall, Ph.D., on how to take care of your mental health in the face of uncertainty as well as 8 ways to manage our anxiety surrounding coronavirus.
There are still so many ways to continue to raise awareness and funds for the cause, and to “virtually” walk with us.
Be on the Stream Team! Stream to raise funds and show everyone what you are doing instead of walking on that day. You can also go on Facebook Live or IGTV to share with everyone on social.
The CW Bracket begins March 16th, and your school can be on the Bracket and win whether the walk happens or not! The winning walk participants who raise $25+ during the challenge will win a prize!
You will still receive a free shirt for raising $100!
You can still receive super cool Walk swag!
Please continue to take care of yourself, and thank you for your dedication and support of AFSP and preventing suicide at Pleasant Grove High School.
We are excited to bring this event to you virtually through the following options to participate on Saturday, May 2nd from 11am-2:00pm. Here is how you can join the upcoming event and provide support for suicide prevention:
Participants can register as a Virtual Walker at www.afsp.org/pleasantgrove. If you have already registered in advance, no need to change registration to virtual walker for the event.
The virtual event will be hosted on the following social media outlets for you to follow along for the virtual event:
Instagram: @OutOfTheDarknessPGHS @AFSPSacramento
Facebook Event Page: Pleasant Grove High School Virtual Out of the Darkness Campus Walk
Follow along between now and May 2nd to interact with us for the virtual event. On May 2nd, we will host the virtual walk events during the following times for you to participate from your physical distancing location:
11:00 am – Event welcome
Watch welcome videos from peers, counselors, AFSP and more to get things started!
11:15 am – Here for You Challenge
Join the #HereForYou Challenge by selecting 5 people you are there for and giving them a shout out on social media with the #hereforyou and tag @outofthedarknesspghs and/or @afspsacramento. Even though we may be physically distancing, we are still standing together and never alone with our Pleasant Grove Family.
11:30 am – Bead “Ceremony”
Bead Ceremony - interact with us and share your colors to show your connection to suicide prevention. Wear your colors on your virtual walk in honor of today's event or post the heart or emoji of your choice. #BeadCeremony
11:45 am – Why I Walk
#WhyIWalk - Share with us your reason for walking with us in support of suicide prevention
12:00 pm - Virtual Walk
Get creative!! Take a walk with your quarantine crew, do a creative Tiktok or Boomerang video, or snap a photo on your walk and share on @outofthedarknesspghs or @afspsacramento for us to follow along on your walk.
2:00 pm - Closing Ceremony
Thank you for participating in the virtual walk event!
We are so appreciative of your support, and we hope you will join us and continue promoting the importance of conversations around suicide prevention. If you have questions or concerns regarding the event, please contact Lezlie Young at [email protected]

Raise $100 by 05/02/2020 and receive an official Out of the Darkness Campus Walk T-shirt!
Remember, in addition to fundraising online, you will be able to turn in additional cash or check donations at the registration table the day of the Walk.
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental health condition can sometimes feel as if no one understands what you are going through. Wearing honor beads the day of the walk is a way to show each other that we are all connected to the cause, and that no one is alone.
There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above.
The Out of the Darkness Campus Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, support, and a walk that unites a campus and community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones.
Online registration closes at noon the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until June 30th.
When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.
As the leader in the fight against suicide, and thanks to walkers like you from cities across the country, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.
