Welcome to the Out of the Darkness Permian Basin Experience

While the Permian Basin Out of the Darkness Walk is going to look different this year, our mission to Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide has not changed. Mental Health and suicide prevention are more important than ever. We are a strong and resilient community, united in our effort to fight suicide, raise awareness, educate our communities, support those who have lost loves ones, and support those with lived experience. We use our voices and share our stories to provide hope.

We may not able to gather thousands of people for our traditional event, but we really miss you! So, we are transitioning to a Walk Your Way Permian Basin Experience. We are asking all of our walkers to walk on the route of their choice on October 11th. As you walk take pictures to add to the HOPE Hub or post them to social media using #TexasTogether and #TogethertoFightSuicide. Share with us your miles walked so that we can see how many miles were walked together to fight suicide.

We're working to find a time and place where we can still meet you to provide our favorite parts of the Out of the Darkness events, like honor beads, resources, and t-shirts. We are also upping our game with more incentives and activities than ever before.

This is going to be memorable and ground-breaking year and we hope you'll join us in our mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

We are always, #TogetherToFightSuicide,

**This Month Only**
We're sending one of these exclusive stickers to everyone who registers for the Permian Basin Experience and makes a self-donation of $5 or more between September 1st and September 30th

Our walks typically provide opportunities to share “Why I Walk” or a message of HOPE.  This year the we are bringing this opportunity to you digitally.  Click HERE to submit a video (30-45 seconds long) or picture with text for why you walk.

Consider a message that speaks to one or more of these three themes:

  • You’ve lost someone and you want to share about them.
  • You have a message of hope to others that have lost loved ones.
  • You have a message of hope for those that struggle or who have survived an attempt.

Activities of Hope and Healing

We will have a memorial wall that will be decorated with butterflies that you can decorate. The butterflies will be available for pick up in mid September, and also at the event.

Honor Beads

Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection. There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above. Learn more by watching our honor bead video.

The Out of the Darkness Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.
