Permian Basin Experience

Join us on October 11, 2020

Welcome to the Out of the Darkness Permian Basin Experience

While the Permian Basin Out of the Darkness Walk is going to look different this year, our mission to Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide has not changed. Mental Health and suicide prevention are more important than ever. We are a strong and resilient community, united in our effort to fight suicide, raise awareness, educate our communities, support those who have lost loves ones, and support those with lived experience. We use our voices and share our stories to provide hope.

The Walk is still happening, just in a new and creative way! While we may not be able to gather all together this year, participants and their teams will be safely walking throughout neighborhoods and parks all across our community on the same day, in honor of the person(s) for who them walk and in commemoration of the 2020 Permian Basin Out of the Darkness Experience. This is an opportunity yo bring our messages of hope and awareness to the places we call home! so wear your OOTD walk t-shirts and beads with pride and share your expereinces in our HOPE Hub or on social media using #TexasTogether. Share with us your miles walked so that we can see how many miles were walked together to fight suicide.

We would like to connect with you in person in a way that keeps you and our volunteers safe while following the CDC and local guidelines. As a result, we've been working hard to create a pop-up opportunity for you to pick up beads and resources, drop-off donations, and pick-up team captain packets. At your convenience, please come to pick-up items on October 11th any time between 12pm - 5pm at the Family Resiliency Center.

This is going to be memorable and ground-breaking year and we hope you'll join us in our mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

We are always, #TogetherToFightSuicide.

Activities of Hope and Healing

We will have a memorial wall that will be decorated with butterflies that you can decorate. The butterflies will be available for pick up in mid September, and also at the event.

Honor Beads

Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection. There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above. Learn more by watching our honor bead video.

The Out of the Darkness Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.
