Welcome to the Out of the Darkness Greater Philadelphia Experience
While the Greater Philadelphia Out of the Darkness Walk is going to look different this year, our mission to Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide has not changed. We are a strong and resilient community, united in our effort to fight suicide, raise awareness, educate our communities, support those who have lost loved ones, and support those with lived experience. We use our voices and share our stories to provide hope.
We invite you to join us this Fall for an Out of the Darkness Experience. We’re working hard to plan meaningful opportunities to connect and inspire you, and we will share more details about our exciting plans in the coming weeks.
We want to keep you up-to-date with the most current information so be sure to sign up and join us here!

The Walk is still happening, just in a new and creative way! While we may not be able to gather all together this year, participants and their teams will be safely walking throughout neighborhoods and parks all across our community on the same day, at the same time in honor of the person(s) for whom they walk and in commemoration of the 2020 Greater Philadelphia Out of the Darkness Experience. This is an opportunity to bring our messages of hope and awareness to the places we call home, so carry your Honor & Remembrance signs, wear your OOTD walk t-shirts and beads with pride, and share your experiences on social media using our hashtag #PhillyFightsSuicide!
OPENING CEREMONY will take place Online. Join us from your computer or phone while you walk as we remember the impact of suicide during the annual Honor Beads Ceremony, share stories of hope and healing, and take time to recognize all of our wonderful top participants, teams, and sponsors furthering our mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.
When you tune in to our live stream opening ceremony to kick-off the 2020 Greater Philadelphia Out of the Darkness Experience at 9 a.m., on October 4th, you will have the pleasure of enjoying Louis Knight, hometown ambassador and internationally known singer-songwriter, perform his original song “Change”.
"DRIVE UP" to PICK UP We will be hosting several Packet Pickup events throughout walk season where participants can come and grab OOTD signage and goodie bags filled with swag, tips & tools, luminaria materials, and more! And, in true “Drive By” fashion, please feel free to decorate your car to show your Team Spirit! Register for an upcoming distribution site: https://afsp.org/chapter/greater-philadelphia#events.
FUNDRAISING Share your fundraising link on social media with a picture or video and why you support OOTD using the hashtag #PhillyFightsSuicide. T-SHIRT All participants who raise $150+ will have their 2020 Greater Philadelphia OOTD t-shirt in the mail! Please note that your t-shirt might arrive after the Experience, but please feel free to wear your past OOTD Walk shirts on October 4th!

Activities of Hope and Healing
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection. There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above. Learn more by watching our honor bead video.
The Out of the Darkness Experience is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.
