Welcome to the Niantic Out of the Darkness Experience

While the Out of the Darkness Walks in Connecticut are going to look different this year, our mission to Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide has not changed. We are a strong and resilient community, united in our effort to fight suicide, raise awareness, educate our communities, support those who have lost loved ones, and support those with lived experience. We use our voices and share our stories to provide hope.

Out of the Darkness Niantic Experience for Registered Team Captains:

WHEN: TBD!!!
Where: This event has been postponed! We will update with a new date as soon as possible!

BUT, WAIT … ARE WE STILL WALKING TO FIGHT SUICIDE?

YES! The Niantic Out of the Darkness Experience is a real walk, but, because we cannot host a traditional walk as in past years and gather together, this year we encourage you to walk on your terms: you get to choose your own course, what time you start, and who walks next to you (within social distancing guidelines)! The walking is real—it's the community that's virtual this year.

PLEASE WALK ANY DAY OF YOUR CHOOSING BEFORE NOVEMBER 7th and send your photos and videos to mpeters@afsp.org so that we can include them in the CLOSING CELEBRATION ZOOM on NOVEMBER 7th. USE the #AFSPCT #OOTDNIANTIC #CTTOGETHERTOFIGHTSUICIDE

More great reasons to register:

  • All participants can create and join teams. This is a great way to motivate family, friends, and co-workers to join you!
  • Registered walkers who raise $150 will earn a limited, one-time only 2020 Together to Fight Suicide T-shirt.
  • Access to our Out of the Darkness Chapter E-Vent taking place on November 7th

  2. We remain dedicated to providing you with opportunities to connect, heal, share stories, create impact, and show you that you are not alone.

Activities of Hope and Healing

Honor Beads

Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection. There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above. Learn more by watching our honor bead video.

The Out of the Darkness Experience is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.
