Our community has always been the heart of the Out of the Darkness Walks. Your safety and well-being will always be our top priority, and we are closely monitoring CDC and local guidelines as we map out our options for bringing you an experience of hope and healing this fall.
Though there are many unknowns, there are a few things we know for sure:
You belong to a strong community united in an effort to fight suicide while showing up for yourself, recognizing and honoring those you love, raising awareness, educating communities, supporting one another, and sharing hope.
We remain dedicated to providing you with opportunities to connect, heal, share stories, create impact, and show you that you are not alone.
Mental Health and suicide prevention are more important than ever, and we’re confident that with your help we can reach more people than ever before.

NEW Out of the Darkness Experience Chapter T-Shirt Design CONTEST! Looking for creative, talented designers! Our chapter is launching a T-shirt design contest for our 2020 Fall Out of the Darkness Experience Events. This year, we will select one design to be showcased and printed on the back of all our OOTD shirts.
Design parameters should incorporate themes surrounding:
· “Hope is Not Cancelled”
· Mental health and suicide prevention
· Covid-19 and the implications the pandemic has had on our world (physical distancing, not social distancing)
And follow these guidelines:
· Must be registered as a walker in order to submit a design
· Must follow safe messaging. No inappropriate imagery, language or terms will be accepted
· Design cannot include your team name or the name of a loved one
· If possible, avoid intricate detailing as it may not display well (dependent on how many other logos will be included)
· Vector art PDF files are best, but not mandatory
· Designer can include their signature on the piece if desired
Disclaimer: Our AFSP Chapter Board of Directors will review all the designs and reserves the right to exclude any submission from the voting process that do not follow the above guidelines*
Submit artwork to: midoni[email protected]
Deadline to Submit: August 10th
Once your artwork has been submitted, you will receive an email confirmation.
The top designs selected will be posted on the Chapter Facebook page. Our followers will be asked to vote for their top choice of designs. The design that gets the most likes will win and the winner’s artwork will be added to all Chapter Walk t-shirts for 2020 OOTD Experience.

Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection. There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above. Learn more by watching our honor bead video.
The Out of the Darkness Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.
