Welcome to the Out of the Darkness East End Long Island Experience

While, the East End Out of the Darkness Walk is going to look different this year, our mission to Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide has not changed. We are a strong and resilient community, united in our effort to fight suicide, raise awareness, educate our communities, support those who have lost loved ones, and support those with lived experience. We use our voices and share our stories to provide hope.

We are excited to be able to offer a SAFE, in person experience and a way to offer meaningful opportunities to connect, support, and inspire you, as well as ways to honor a loved one who you have lost.  We invite you to join us this Fall on Sunday, October 25th, 2020 for an Out of the Darkness Experience!  We're optimistic that we will be able to hold the event at Jones Beach and for now, that is what we are planning.  Should that change due to state restrictions, we will let you know, BUT the event will happen even if we are required to change the venue.

This event will be incorporating both the East End Walk and the Jones Beach Walk participants, we hope that ALL Long Islanders can join us.

The 2020 Long Island Out of the Darkness Experience will be a Drive Up Event where you will participate in your Car!

Similar to a Drive in Movie, we will have the opening ceremony take place on a JUMBO screen in the parking lot with audio play on your FM car radio. There will be opportunities for us to include tributes and meaningful activities for all of our participants, recognize our top teams and individuals, and our sponsors.   We will be able to feature photo's and stories of why you participate and who you are honoring and/or supporting.

We will NOT be walking at all during this event, NY State restrictions on the number of people who can gather prohibits us from doing that, HOWEVER, we do not want that to deter you from participating.  We are working hard to ensure that the event is meaningful and powerful, something you will want to be part of.

Until we meet at the event, we wanted you to be able to share your stories so we created a Memorial Wall/Why Wall for you to share pictures and stories of your loved ones.   We encourage you to click on the link above and tell us your why.

For those who will be unable to attend, we are also planning a 12 hour live from the Paramount in Huntington  HOPE ROCKS event in conjunction with Connoisseur Media Group on Saturday, November 7, 2020.  We have exciting plans for this too and are looking forward to closing the Out of the Darkness season with a wonderful collaboration with our local media stations.

We will be sharing more details about our exciting plans in the coming weeks so be sure to register NOW to continue to get updates and learn about incentives, drop off and pick up of materials, and fun activities leading up to the event.

Encourage your family, friends, and co-workers to register and join us at the Long Island Out of the Darkness Experience- you won't want to miss this!

We are always #TogetherToFightSuicide

Honor Beads

Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection. There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above. Learn more by watching our honor bead video.

The Out of the Darkness Experience is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.
