YES! The Jacksonville Out of the Darkness Experience is a real walk, but on your terms: you get to choose your own course, what time you start, and who walks next to you! The walking is real—it's the community that's virtual this year.
Our community has always been the heart of the Out of the Darkness Walks. We have been closely following the CDC and state and local guidelines. The safety of our walkers, volunteers and staff has been and will continue to be our top priority.
Though there are many unknowns, there are a few things we know for sure:
We realize that nothing can substitute the experience of coming together in person, and we will continue to seek ways in which we can do that safely this fall and beyond. We look forward to connecting in new ways, and we invite you to join us on this journey.

For 33 years, AFSP as led the fight against suicide. It is the largest suicide prevention organization in the United States. By partnering with us as a sponsor, you will allow the North Florida Chapter to fund life-saving research, create and implement educational programs, advocate for public policy on both the local and federal level, and support survivors of suicide loss. By working together to improve the health and well-being of Floridians, we are connecting people to resources and programs, as well as removing barriers that stand in the way of people finding hope and healing.
We encourage you to tell your story about why you support #AFSPNORTHFLORIDA and #OUTOFTHEDARKNESS.

Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection. There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above. Learn more by watching our honor bead video.
The Out of the Darkness Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.
