WHEN AND WHERE IS THE EVENT TAKING PLACE?
We will be gathering at Baldwin Park in Orlando for a socially distanced walk on Saturday, February 6th 2021 at 8:00 am or you can choose to participate virtually wherever you like. In order to cut down on contact points at the walk we will not allow walk up registrations, please make sure you register online in advance. The ceremony for the walk will be online this year and will be sharing a video on Youtube at 7 am EST on Saturday, February 6th. We are still encouraging everyone to connect in our community, just in a different way. You can walk with us at Baldwin Park, by yourself, or with your team, make your loved ones favorite meal, workout, do a relaxing activity, have a Zoom party with your team, or any other healing and connecting experience.
- You belong to a strong community united in an effort to fight suicide while showing up for yourself, recognizing and honoring those you love, raising awareness, educating communities, supporting one another, and sharing hope.
- We remain dedicated to providing you with opportunities to connect, heal, share stories, create impact, and show you that you are not alone.
- While our 2020 events may look a little different than what we’ve come to expect, our mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide has not changed. Mental health and suicide prevention are more important than ever, and we’re confident that with your help we can reach more people than ever before.
- All participants can create and join teams. This is a great way to motivate family, friends, and co-workers to join you!
- Registered walkers will be emailed updates and invites to e-vents in the upcoming months, as well as given the opportunity to participate for incentive prizes
- Individuals who raise $150 or more, will be shipped our exclusive 2021 Out of the Darkness t-shirt!

Virtual HOPE Wall
We have created a virtual HOPE wall where you may post messages of HOPE and LOVE to inspire those who have been affected by suicide. Because we will be cutting down on our touch points at the walk, we created a virtual space to share messages of hope and love and share our Out of the Darkness Experience activities. Anyone can post to these walls, share stories or just take a look. These virtual walls will stay up until the end of the March, so make sure to check back! We will have to approve every single post to make sure all images and texts are safe, therefore it might take a few hours to show on the wall. Thank you for understanding!
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection. There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above. Learn more by watching our honor bead video.
Team and Individual Walk Packets
We are taking extra measures to socially distance and will not be having our honor beads available for in person pick up. We ask that Team Captains and Individuals request walk packets by Wednesday, January 27th 2021 by filling out our Walk Packet request form.
All packets will be mailed in advance of the walk and include:
- AFSP Honor Beads
- "I'm Walking For Bibs or Buttons
- Printed AFSP Materials
The Out of the Darkness Experience is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.
DIGITAL RESOURCE FAIR
This year, in order to maximize social distancing efforts at the 14th Annual Orlando Out of the Darkness Walk we will not be having any vendor or sponsor tables. However, we have many community partners that provide wonderful resources to our community and feel it is important you know what resources are available in Central Florida.
To lean more about each of our community partners please click on their logo.
