Welcome to the Out of the Darkness

Central New York Chapter Virtual Campus Walk

04/24/2021

We are excited to bring you a brand-new format for this year's Central NY Chapter-wide Campus Walk!

Day of Action

Today is the AFSP National Day of Action! Walk individually or as teams on April 24th at the time and location of your choice. Follow us on Instagram for updates @afsp_centralny and tag us when you post photos of the action you're taking to #stopsuicide!

  • Walk - Make a plan that day to walk in your neighborhood, in a local park, or on your campus. Be sure to wear AFSP gear if you have it!
  • Talk - Share your AFSP story, or reach out to a friend to talk about their mental health.
  • Donate - Ask for pledges as you walk that day. Share your donation page link, livestream, or share photos as you walk!

Don't miss out on getting your 2021 Campus Walk t-shirt! Everyone who raises $100 or more individually will receive their t-shirt in the mail in the coming weeks. You have until the end of April to qualify!

There's still time to join us! Register here !

Having trouble registering?  Click here to view a step-by-step guide.  Refer to page 1 if you’re registering yourself, page 5 if you’re registering someone else through your own account, or page 8 if you’re signing up in person on the day of the event.  Be sure to also check out some of the Frequently Asked Questions on page 10.

If you’ve already registered and would like to either create a new team or join an existing one, log into your AFSP account and click on the “change team membership” option on the right hand side of your dashboard tab (on mobile you’ll need to click “dashboard” first).

Once you register, don't forget to use the Activity Tracker to be active while FUNdraising! You'll find the Activity Tracker icon at the top of your page. Using a mobile device? Click the "More" icon on your page.

Hope and Healing Resources

If you've lost someone to suicide, you are not alone. Suicide affects millions each year, and thanks to our donors and volunteers—many of whom are loss survivors themselves—we can provide these resources to help you heal.

How to Talk to a Suicide Loss Survivor

A Daughter’s Journey  follows Sarah, a young adult, through her story of milestones, family, coping and positive growth after the loss of her father. She shares her story of hope, connection and resilience in the aftermath of a suicide loss.

Show your connection to the cause with COLOR.

Online registration closes at noon the Friday before the Day of Action on April 24th.  Walk donations are accepted until June 30th.

When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss. The Central NY Chapter is able to provide free programs and resources to our community thanks to YOUR contributions!

As the leader in the fight against suicide, and thanks to walkers like you from cities across the country, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.

The Central NY Chapter of AFSP serves the following counties: Cayuga, Cortland, Herkimer, Lewis, Jefferson, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, and Tompkins.
