Mental Health Resources for Students
The AFSP-produced film It’s Real: College Students and Mental Health is designed to raise awareness about mental health issues commonly experienced by students, and is intended to be used as part of a school’s educational program to encourage help-seeking.
By featuring real stories and experiences, It’s Real conveys that depression and other mental health conditions are real illnesses that can be managed through specific treatments and interventions. It encourages students to be mindful of the state of their mental health, to acknowledge and recognize when they are struggling, and to take steps to seek help. Contact us to bring It's Real to your campus.
Dealing with the stress and anxiety during COVID may feel overwhelming. You may not have the same feelings as your classmates, coworkers, families, or others in your community, and that's okay because everyone reacts differently to stressful situations. In times of uncertainty, connecting with friends and family can really help in managing feelings of fear and anxiety, and be good for your help. The Seize The Awkward campaign can help you get started in reaching out to a friend about their mental health.
Hope & Healing Resources
If you've lost someone to suicide, you are not alone. Suicide affects millions each year, and thanks to our donors and volunteers—many of whom are loss survivors themselves—we can provide these resources to help you heal.
A Daughter’s Journey follows Sarah, a young adult, through her story of milestones, family, coping and positive growth after the loss of her father. She shares her story of hope, connection and resilience in the aftermath of a suicide loss. View the documentary trailer and film here.
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental health condition can sometimes feel as if no one understands what you are going through. Wearing honor beads the day of the walk is a way to show each other that we are all connected to the cause, and that no one is alone.
There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above. If your school/campus would like to request honor beads, please email your Area Director.
The Out of the Darkness Campus Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, support, and a walk that unites a campus and community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones.
Online registration closes at noon the Friday before the walk. Walk donations are accepted until June 30th.
